Answer in brief

Ihram and miqat

Is a dam required if a pilgrim wears deodorant, powder and lipstick in ihram because she did not know the ihram restrictions still apply after making a conditional intention?

Answer in brief

Deodorant falls under the prohibition of perfume during ihram, and cosmetics intended for beautification or fragrance are also covered by the prohibition. Someone who uses them deliberately and knowing the ruling must pay a dam, choosing between slaughtering a goat, feeding six poor people or fasting three days. If it was done out of forgetfulness or ignorance, the person is excused and owes no dam, but must remove the product as soon as they realise.
