Tahallul and hair cutting
What is tahallul, and how does tahallul in Hajj differ from tahallul in Umrah?
Answer in brief
Tahallul means being released from the prohibitions of ihram, and it is one of the pillars of both Hajj and Umrah. For Umrah, tahallul takes place by shaving or trimming the hair after completing the sa'i. For Hajj, the first tahallul is reached after performing two of three acts: stoning the largest jamrah, the pillar tawaf together with sa'i if not yet done, and shaving or trimming the hair. The second tahallul is reached once all three are completed, and ignorance of these rules may result in a dam for breaching the limits of ihram.
Summary written by DHUMY from the Malay original and checked against it.
