Overnight stays and stoning
Is stoning the jamrah valid if a pilgrim uses a sandal or another object instead of a stone?
Answer in brief
Stoning the jamrah with anything other than stone, such as wood, a sandal or a bottle, is invalid and the throw must be repeated. The validity condition is that stone is used, and all types of stone are accepted, including marble and granite. Water, mud, clay, ceramics and forged metals are not counted as stone. Leaving out the obligatory stoning requires a dam.
