Answer in brief

Ability, finances and the hajj queue

Is a person declared bankrupt considered unable to perform Hajj, and may he go once he has received his Hajj call?

Answer in brief

A bankrupt person who has received a Hajj call is permitted to perform Hajj under certain conditions. If he can settle his debts immediately, he must do so, and his remaining wealth must be enough to support his dependants and cover the cost of Hajj. If he cannot, he must obtain approval for instalment payments from the relevant authority, be confident that Hajj will not affect those instalments, and ensure his dependants are adequately provided for. Travelling abroad requires written approval from the Director General of Insolvency or permission from the court, and applications for the purpose of Hajj are allowed.
